A strategy for wellness...

Updated: Oct 12

Welcome to the new millennium and the age of chronic disease! So many people are suffering from conditions that are ongoing and detrimental to living life fully.

Our med model has taken a strict, by the book, write a script for everything approach, but it's no longer working. Modern life is different. Our water no longer hydrates us or supplies minerals. Our food supply is equally failing to nourish us. Our lives are filled with stress. Today’s diseases aren't responding to the approaches that used to work because the foundation of health for us, as a society, is broken. Simply eating and drinking sensibly no longer guarantees health as it did in the past. When your body’s metabolism is severely damaged, more times than not a script won’t do anything except drain your bank account.

As someone who's suffered from chronic illness for a very long time, I've learned of some key things that are missing when it comes to solving the mystery of chronic disease. People are going to the doctor and being prescribed medication but the illness persists year after year because the body never actually heals itself. In order for the body to heal it needs certain things. Things that are foundational to wellness.

Most important are nutrients, ie. vitamins and minerals. Each of the things listed on the back of a vitamin bottle serves a distinct purpose. The rise in diabetes can be directly correlated with a magnesium deficiency, and high blood pressure can be linked to both low magnesium and potassium levels. Potassium is readily available in fruits and vegetables but with the soil being depleted of the nutrients it used to have (remember manure, compost, peat?), we aren't getting the levels we need. Adding to that, we've switched from home cooked meals to a diet of fast and convenient foods which even further lessens the actual nutrients the body gets. If the food is grown in nutrient depleted soil and we’re primarily eating potato chips and things out of a box all the time, where will the nutrients our bodies need come from?

The next thing responsible for chronic disease is having faulty mitochondria. All disease is either nutrient related or an issue with our mitochondria, meaning the powerhouses in the cells are defective and aren't performing as they should. That could mean toxins aren't being eliminated or nutrients aren't being absorbed and utilized. It won't matter what nutrients we put in our bodies if our mitochondria are broken. They simply won't be able to use it.

Below is a free resource from my website where I outline some foundational principles for health. I'm also going to list some adjunct therapies that you might find beneficial. With the exception of structured water, there are easily searchable studies for all the below items and their beneficial effect on mitochondria and/or other health conditions. Structured water is a little new to the party so no formal studies have been done yet, but the science behind it simply makes sense.

Red light therapy – Our bodies need light. Infrared light that we typically get from the sun is beneficial to our cellular health. Many of us aren’t getting enough. While red light therapy doesn’t supply vitamin D, studies have proven beneficial effects on mitochondria and healing of disease. It’s also beneficial for skin and hair as it helps the body generate collagen. It’s also used in cases of chronic pain.

Hydrogen water – Oxidative stress is the beginning of disease and aging. Hydrogen water is antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, reduces blood sugar and cholesterol. It mitigates free radicals in the body which is often the jump off place for cancer.

Grounding – Our bodies are frequency. We are energy. Grounding is a way of tuning your frequency to the earth’s natural resonance. Turns out, touching the ground, or grounding, is very healing for the body. In a perfect world we all walked barefoot on the earth or put our hands in dirt while gardening, but modern life has taken us far away from what God intended. Grounding mats are a hack that brings the frequency indoors. You can use them in the tranquility of your home without the worry of walking on germs and dead animals. Research has shown grounding is beneficial for wound healing, boosts immunity, improves mood and sleep, quells inflammation and reduces pain.

Urolithin A – Urolithin A has numerous effects on our bodies. It’s anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-tumor and anti-aging. It not only improves mitochondrial function but it’s superior at increasing autophagy. That simply means it improves the process by which the body cleans up defective and damaged cells. When autophagy works well the body can perform its metabolic processes more efficiently because its cells aren’t overburdened and clogged up with waste products.

Structured water – Let’s face it. Our water supply is as far away from being considered natural. Held in vats. Filled with chemicals. While we have gratitude for that process because it means our water is safe, it’s not exactly life giving. When we consume things as close to nature as possible, our health improves. That includes our water. Again, in a perfect world, we would have a clean water source…a stream or a spring nearby. But modern life is such that it would be contaminated and unsafe to drink. What they’ve just recently figured out is that when the water runs underground, over rocks, etc, it gathers a charge. The molecules change, and scientists and researchers refer to that as water that is “structured.” The water that is naturally contained in fruits and vegetables is also considered “structured.” Long, scientific story short, water in its natural state is more easily assimilated by the body. It hydrates better. Dr. Masaru Emoto and Dr. Gerald Pollack have led the scientific community in this area for the past few decades so the concept isn’t new. What’s new is that they make devices that can now structure water when it comes out of the tap. Here’s a study on the effect on animals. Hopefully, human studies are on the way.

And lastly, the most important thing is mindset. Not only believing that healing is possible but doing whatever you can to avoid being stressed. The body heals when the mind is completely at peace. I have a podcast on my website where I discuss tips to master your life and bring more peace to your daily existence.

Being healthy is possible. It just takes a little more effort these days. Don’t forget to read my blog post below where I give a few more details on how you can establish a foundation for health or heal your body if that’s the stage of life you’re in.
