Delilah Carmichael is living an idyllic life. She's married to the man of her dreams, her two older children are off to a great start in life and her youngest just left for Stanford. She now relishes the time she has to focus on herself and is looking forward to rekindling the passion that took a backseat for both she and her husband once the responsibility of raising children came. College sweethearts, their love has remained strong all these years, but in the midst of diapering bottoms and business meetings, their focus on each other slipped from the list of priorities. But now, with the kids gone, all that is about to change. She's planning a surprise birthday party for the man she loves...to show her appreciation for the man he's been.
The decorations are all set, the caterers will arrive at any moment. What happens next she never saw coming...
My Inspiration
I love telling the stories of women and bringing complex issues to light. What happens to a woman when her kids are grown? Does she know who she is? What she wants? The answers to those questions led me to write this short story. Sometimes life takes a turn. It's part of the journey. What matters is what we do when it happens. Do we let it break us or push us further into the woman we know we can become?

What an amazing author and storyteller! I am an avid reader and I can pretty much tell after reading the first few lines if a book is worth reading. I can honestly say that I have not been disappointed with Tonya’s books. It takes real talent to captivate an audience and I have read Tonya’s books in one setting because I literally could not put her book down. I am so looking forward to the sequel of Birthday Surprise: A Short Story as well other books in the works. Keep up the great work and intriguing the minds of others.

I really enjoyed this quick read from Tonya Lampley. The story of Kevin and Delilah is one that we know so well, but this one was told with class. It was also showed the true story of a woman's rebirth after she was done horribly wrong by the man she thought was her forever.
This story is a quick smooth read that will leave you wanting to know what comes next. I recommend it to anyone looking for a good quick read.

Really enjoy this short read. Here you have someone going through a mid life change and decides that the 24 yrs of marriage is no more. What does one spouse do once this becomes known? A complete renovation of oneself.
